Stick or Twist is a term originated in the card game; you can keep your cards with you (stick) or take the risk of losing and playing for more (twist).

When is a painting finished? A collaboration between artist and 20 buyers

Twenty art buyers have agreed to purchase a blank canvas for 150 euro.
Then Aukje Dekker started realising the painting in phases, sharing the proces with the buyers and giving them the chance to stop or continue, to stick or twist.

With the assistance of predominantly Matthew Day and Jepster Weijzig, but also with many other friends and lovers, all the 20 paintings will remain almost identical, for the case that more then one buyer wish to buy the painting at a certain stage.

At each stage it is up to each individual buyer to determine: stop (stick) or continue (twist). Each new phase, however, the buyer takes € 50, - on top of the € 150 for the empty canvas.

If a buyer decides that the painting is finished: he / she presses the "stick". One buyer may stop while the other buyers still wait it and continue. As one buyer states that his painting is finished, this is the definitive version of one of the twenty paintings. During the creative process, buyers can place comments places thus trying to influence the process.

The number of phases in the production process and what is the final version of the painting, depends on the extent to which purchasers stop or continue as the project is only finished if everyone has bought.

During Stick or Twist's gallery Vriend van Bavink at Geldersekade's becomes the studio of Aukje Dekker. The project will be concluded with a finissage The project as a whole is released with all its steps and the accompanying catalog for the buyers.
